Shashaa Kiran Tirupati, born on 21 December 1989 in Srinagar and raised in Canada, is a multilingual Indian playback singer, songwriter, and music producer. Trained in Hindustani classical music from a young age under renowned mentors, she moved to Mumbai in the early 2010s to pursue her passion in Indian cinema. Discovered by A.R. Rahman during Coke Studio auditions, she quickly gained acclaim for her signature vocal contributions on Bollywood hits like “The Humma Song” (OK Jaanu), “Phir Bhi Tumko Chahunga” (Half Girlfriend), “Kanha” (Shubh Mangal Saavdhan), and emotionally stirring tracks in Tamil and Telugu films. In 2018, she won both the National Film Award and the Filmfare South Award for Best Female Playback Singer for “Vaan Varuvaan,” becoming known as “The Humma Girl.” Beyond playback singing, she has released independent singles such as “In My Skin,” “String Of Air,” and “Leprechaun Love,” written and produced by herself. With over 200 songs recorded across more than 20 languages, Shashaa remains a dynamic force bridging South Indian cinema, Bollywood, and indie music.
