Yugabharathi, born Prem Kumar on December 2, 1976, in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, is a revered Tamil poet and lyricist celebrated for his prolific contributions to Indian cinema. He began his literary journey in the early 1990s, writing poems for various magazines under the pen name “Yugabharathi” as a tribute to the legendary Subramanya Bharathi. Educated at Maxwell Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Thanjavur and later earning a diploma in mechanical engineering from Government Polytechnic College, Aranthangi, Yugabharathi’s passion for words eventually led him from magazine editing roles to film songwriting. He debuted as a lyricist with the song “Pallankuzhiyin Vattam Parthaen” from the film Aanandham and rapidly became one of the most sought-after lyricists in Tamil cinema, penning over 1,000 songs. Renowned for hits like “Kadhal Pisase,” “Manmada Rasa,” and “Konja Neram,” his lyrics often combine deep philosophy, social consciousness, and relatable emotions, earning him both critical acclaim and a lasting legacy in the industry.
