Madan Mohan, born on June 25, 1924, in Baghdad and raised in India, was one of the most iconic music composers in Hindi cinema, renowned for his deep understanding of classical music and mastery in composing soulful ghazals. Fondly known as the “Ghazal King” of Bollywood, he created timeless melodies during the golden era of Indian film music. His collaborations with legendary singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, and Talat Mahmood produced evergreen hits such as “Lag Jaa Gale,” “Woh Bhooli Dastaan,” “Naina Barse Rimjhim Rimjhim,” and “Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha.” Madan Mohan had a unique ability to blend Indian classical ragas with cinematic emotion, giving his music a lasting emotional depth. Though he passed away prematurely in 1975 at the age of 51, his legacy was revived decades later when his unused compositions were adapted in the film Veer-Zaara, reintroducing his timeless work to newer generations.
