Paresh Kamath is a versatile Indian musician, composer, guitarist, and music producer based in Mumbai, acclaimed for his genre-spanning career in India’s independent and popular music scenes for over three decades. Starting out in the early 1990s with heavy metal bands like Witch-Hammer, Paresh soon became integral to the city’s vibrant indie and jazz-fusion circuits, playing with bands such as Krysys, Chakraview, Spice-Tribe, and the acclaimed Divya ensemble. His significant break came as a founding member and lead guitarist in Kailasa, the celebrated Sufi-fusion band formed alongside his brother Naresh Kamath and singer Kailash Kher. In Kailasa, Paresh is credited for shaping the group’s sound by integrating rock, blues, jazz, and Indian folk into Bollywood and Sufi classics, contributing to hits like “Teri Deewani,” “Saiyyan,” and “Bam Lahiri.” Kamath’s musical journey has included composing jingles, background scores for films (“The Blueberry Hunt,” “What are the Odds?”), and collaborating with multiple bands, such as Hipnotribe. His influence extends internationally through performances with Kailasa at major venues and festivals worldwide. Known for his adaptability, technical prowess, and creative vision, Paresh Kamath stands out as one of India’s leading guitarists and a key figure in its evolving contemporary music landscape.
