Peter Cat Recording Co. is a New Delhi–based alternative rock collective formed in 2009 by multi‑instrumentalist and vocalist Suryakant Sawhney. The current quintet—Sawhney, drummer Karan Singh, bassist and sampler Dhruv Bhola, keyboardist/trumpeter Rohit Gupta, and multi‑instrumentalist Kartik Pillai—has been performing together since around 2018. Known for their eclectic fusion of gypsy jazz, cabaret, soul, Bollywood melodies, psychedelic rock, disco and indie pop, the band has built a distinct sonic identity spanning emotional depth and theatrical flair. Their debut album Sinema (2011) introduced their DIY aesthetic, followed by a series of experimental releases culminating in critically acclaimed records like Portrait of a Time (2018) and Bismillah (2019), the latter earning international recognition. In 2024, they released BETA, a genre‑defying concept album blending vintage and futuristic sounds that set the tone for their global tour. With immersive live shows and a self‑produced ethos, Peter Cat Recording Co. stands out as one of India’s most innovative indie bands.
