Pushpavanam Kuppusamy is a celebrated Tamil folk singer, lyricist, composer, writer, and scholar renowned for revitalizing the traditional art form of Naatupura Paatu. Hailing from Pushpavanam village in Tamil Nadu, he pursued advanced studies in music—including MA, MPhil, and a PhD—and has performed over 3,000 concerts across India and abroad alongside his wife Anitha Kuppusamy. Together they’ve released several albums of authentic Tamil folk music and authored books on folk songs. A recipient of the prestigious Kalaimamani award and an honorary doctorate, Kuppusamy is also a familiar face on Tamil television, where he appears as a judge on music reality shows. He has rendered playback songs in Tamil cinema, collaborating with composers like Ilaiyaraaja, Vidyasagar, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Devi Sri Prasad, and G. V. Prakash Kumar. Celebrated for his raw yet expressive folk voice and his ability to weave social messages into his art, he remains a pivotal figure in preserving and popularizing Tamil cultural heritage through music.
