Ravi Basrur (born January 1, 1984, in Basrur, Kundapura taluk, Karnataka) is an Indian music composer, sound designer, lyricist, vocalist, and film director best known for his powerful work in the Kannada cinema. After spending years as a programmer and live rhythm musician in over 60 films, he made his debut as a music director with the 2014 action-thriller Ugramm, earning accolades including Zee Music and KIMA awards for best background score and recognition as a Filmfare nominee. He rose to international prominence with his acclaimed scores for K.G.F: Chapter 1 (for which he won SIIMA and Karnataka State Film Awards) and K.G.F: Chapter 2, and delivered impactful soundtracks for Salaar and Bhairathi Ranagal. A self-taught talent rooted in Yakshagana folk traditions, he built a studio in his native Basrur and often directs films celebrating coastal Karnataka culture. Known for his emotive orchestral soundscapes and genre-defying creativity, Basrur remains a highly respected figure across Indian industry.
