Sameer Anjaan, born Shitala Pandey on 24 February 1958 near Varanasi, is a legendary Indian lyricist who holds the Guinness World Record for writing the most songs in Hindi cinema—over 4,000 across 500+ films. Son of the celebrated lyricist Anjaan, he followed his passion for songwriting despite initially working as a bank officer. After moving to Mumbai in the early 1980s, he faced hardship and rejection—including stories of surviving on stolen food—before breakthrough success with chart-defining lyrics in films like Aashiqui and Dil in 1990. He went on to pen iconic songs such as “Nazar Ke Saamne,” “Teri Umeed Tera Intezaar,” “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” “Ole Ole,” “Pardesi Pardesi,” and many more. Honored with three Filmfare Awards in the early 1990s and multiple industry accolades, Sameer became Bollywood’s most prolific lyricist in the 1990s and 2000s.
