Shalmali Kholgade (born January 2, 1990 in Mumbai) is an acclaimed Indian playback singer known for her rich, expressive voice that blends western, classical and pop sensibilities. She began performing at age 16 and made her Bollywood debut in 2012 with the hit song “Pareshaan” from Ishaqzaade, which won her a Filmfare Award and catapulted her into mainstream success. In the following years, she delivered numerous chart‑toppers such as “Lat Lag Gayee”, “Balam Pichkaari”, “Daaru Desi” and “Naach Meri Jaan”, showcasing her versatile vocal range and ability to bring energy to party numbers as well as emotional depth to ballads. Beyond films, she has performed as a vocalist in Mikey McCleary’s jazz‑inspired group The Bartender and toured internationally with a Latvian cabaret troupe. She also composes independent music, notably for the Marathi film June, and in 2023 became the first singer in India to perform an unreleased song live at an awards show.
