Sithara Krishnakumar, born on 1 July 1986 in Thenhipalam near Malappuram in Kerala, is an accomplished playback singer, composer, dancer, and occasional actor who predominantly works in Malayalam cinema. She began her artistic journey as a trained classical dancer, before devoting herself to music through rigorous training in both Carnatic and Hindustani traditions. She holds master’s degrees in Hindustani Khayal and Vocal Music, and was twice honored with the prestigious “Kalathilakam” award at her university arts festival. Completing her debut in film playback singing in 2007, she has since recorded over 300 songs across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada languages. Sithara has also composed independent work, including tributes to women workers and film soundtracks. She leads and composes for Project Malabaricus, an ensemble rooted in South Indian folk and classical expression. With her soulful voice, genre-defying collaborations, and international performances, Sithara Krishnakumar has emerged as one of South India’s most respected and versatile artists.
