Yawar Abdal is a Kashmiri-born singer-songwriter and composer based in Pune, celebrated for reimagining traditional Kashmiri poetry through modern folk-rock and Sufi-inspired soundscapes. Born in Srinagar and raised immersed in regional culture, he moved to Pune in 2010 for engineering studies before gravitating toward music full-time by 2016. His breakthrough single “Tamanna,” sung in Kashmiri, Urdu, and Persian and weaving together verses from poets like Mahjoor, Mirza Ghalib, and Amir Khusrow, became an instant anthem—earning widespread acclaim among Kashmiri youth. His debut album Aabad (2021) further showcased his ability to turn social resilience, identity, and introspection into arena-ready Kashmiri rock, with standout tracks like “Siyasat,” “Jaan Baaki Hai,” and “Visaal E Yaar.” Yawar’s artistry blends Sufi poetry with electric motifs, aiming to bring Kashmiri literary heritage to broader audiences.
